Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus

Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a condition affecting many elderly patients over 60 years old. Due to the slow development of the symptoms the diagnosis is sometimes late or not proper. Gait disturbance, memory and concentration disorders as well as urinary incontinence (Hakim Trias) are the most common symptoms that characterize this condition. An implantation of a Shunt System can in most cases heal it.

Headaches, exhaustion, nausea, vomiting and visual disturbances are, on the contrary, typical for an obstructive hydrocephalus. The most common causes are infections of the ventricles, cysts or tumor causing obstruction. This situation is serious and demands a rush treatment as it can lead to consciousness disorders or even coma and death.

Through an endoscopic ventriculostomy or Shunt implantation are the healing rates for adults and children very good.
